Aoraki/Mt. Cook National Park

Our second week, we traveled north to Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.  We stayed in the town Twizel.  This area is know for the spectacular views of the Southern Alps.  Brenda and Roger took a gliding flight hoping to view Mount Cook, but the updrafts didn't cooperate.  We visited one of the sanctuaries where they raise black stilts - to world's most endangered wading bird.  One evening, we had a tour at Mount John Observatory.   At about midnight, we had great views of the night sky.
